The star has donated the full amount of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the Britain's small music venues.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his new release his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to support thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues caused by water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from shows in big venues helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist Cocker stated that the act would contribute their prize money to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist the artist shared her award among multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a grand to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Two years ago, the band gave their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated singer Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in that area and the other in that location were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the properties.
