A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
